Mad Architecture
When the original Beaux-Arts station was torn down in 1963 there was such an uproar from the citizens of NYC that the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission was established.

Penn Station looks beautiful. Hadn't known about this (not a New Yorker)They talked about this on Mad Men - the group that wanted to tear it down to build Madison Square Garden wanted PR so that they wouldn't be bothered by the "beatniks and leftists" protesting the loss of Penn Station. What a shame.
