Piranesi was always very interested in architecture as his etchings prove. He set about recording the many great monuments and the architecture of Rome.

Architectural drawings and etchings are one of the most intriguing and remarkable forms of art in my opinion. Piranessi was a master of this art and there are many, many artists that have excelled at this type of art. The images can be eerie and gothic, or impress the enormity of some of the buildings being illustrated to the viewer. Buildings under construction or long deteriorated. The geometry and types of perpective can be complex and quite enjoyable to see. Thanks for introducing one of these images Martha.

Piranesi was a genuis! A man with a unique vision whose inexhaustible works of drawings and etchings created a lasting picture of Rome as Canaletto did of Venice. An artist not to be forgotten.
