I've said before that I think Rosetti's depiction of anatomy is pretty strange - are you sure that isn't Morris himself in the photo? What's up with that? Such a sumptious setting and scene, but I can't ever get past the body! Sorry....
No need to be sorry, Rossetti, while a driving force in the PRB, was not it's skilled artist. The hands and feet are problematic, at best.
Eek! She has a neck like a Mannerist Madonna! This is Post-Raphaelite, not Pre-Raphaelite.
guess I'm in the minority here, I like the piece--distortions and all. But if I had to choose my fav of this model, it would definitely be yesterday's post....
I find this image remarkable. I think this painting is excellent (and superior to yesterdays). The hands and feet are strong and Michelangelo-esque. the fabric is wonderfully rendered. The colors are intense and beautiful and the draughtsmanship on the foliage is well done. There's a sense of atmosphere and the pose is engaging and complex. —ZAC
