Thiebaud came to prominence during the Pop Art years of the 1950's & 1960's. His work has remained an important force in American art. A retrospective exhibition was presented in 2000.

This is possibly my favorite painting ever. It used to be up for all to see in the National gallery in DC, but they took it down a little over a year ago. I used to sit in front of it for what seemed like forever, at least to my friends who would go to the gallery with me.
