Wayside Cross

Sarah Robertson was a Canadian artist and member of the woman's painting group known as the Beaver Hall Group . They were friends and contemporaries of the men's group "The Seven" but never achieved the same level of recognition.

I remember seeing lots of wayside crosses, shrines and sometimes even chapels in Germany, Belguim and Netherlands. That was 25 years ago. I wonder if they are still there.
I bet they are. I found this subject very interesting, as I had not really encountered them before.

I first saw crosses by the road in NE Mexico in 1978, memorials to traffic fatalities.
In the southern part of the U.S. there are also increasing numbers of roadside crosses, with varied objects at their bases, placed to remember traffic fatalities. Some have names, dates; many do not. On some curves one wonders if the distraction will cause another such error in judgement. Let's hope not.
